YANA - You Are Not Alone project. Helping victims of domestic violence in emigration

Human rights activist Alyona Popova, journalist Elena Servettaz and independent European media Medialoft launch the YANA project - an information campaign to help victims of domestic violence in emigration.

YANA (You Are Not Alone) is a series of guides to different countries, which accumulates all the information necessary in a critical situation, contacts of human rights organizations, shelters, lawyers and psychologists. An abuser can be both a Russian-speaking and a foreign partner/partner. It is very important to understand your rights, to present an algorithm of actions, to know which organizations can help.

YANA WILL HELP TO MAKE A CLEAR PLAN OF ACTION IF A WOMAN:

  • is in a situation of maximum uncertainty in a new country;
  • is emotionally or physically abusive;
  • may not have a residence permit or is on a tourist visa;
  • does not understand what rights she and her child have;
  • is inactive because she is afraid of child welfare services;
  • fears discrimination on the grounds of nationality;
  • does not know how to write a police report, how to act without knowing the language, etc.
YANA IS LOOKING FOR EXPERTS and volunteers

In order to create clear and understandable instructions, the authors of the project need the advice of experts: lawyers, human rights activists, social workers from different countries who understand the topic.

If you work in one of the European or EaP countries, please contact us in one of these ways:

  • Have knowledge of the issue in a specific country? Please fill in your answers to the specific questions in this form (currently in Russian). They will help us to put together clear guidance. You can forward the form to your colleagues - the more information we have, the better the final text will be
  • Is it easier to answer via ZOOM? Fill in the contact form so that our coordinator can contact you with some country-specific questions.
  • Would you like to volunteer to help us with the project? You can write here as well, and specify "volunteer" in the area of expertise.
  • Prefer to write to email?  Contact YANA.
